The Residential Forum was established by Dame Gillian Wagner in 1994. It promotes group and supported living as a ‘positive choice’ for some people at some points in their life.
The Forum advances the right of everybody to enjoy their home wherever they live. It does this by upholding high standards of care and support for children and adults living in residential care and nursing homes, supported housing, residential schools and colleges, hospices and hostels. It contributes to improving the availability and quality of these services to the public.
Supporters are people – residents, tenants, relatives, care and support workers, managers, business owners, charity trustees, academics, trainers, inspectors, commissioners and policy makers – who want to learn, influence and contribute to change in the way we can live together. Supporters believe that society is a living structure of individuals, families and neighbours living in a variety of settings. All have support needs to differing degrees and intensity which may have an impact on where and how they live – where they make their home.
